Venice, the $ 1 million Breggruen prize to philosopher Peter Singer

Affirming its presence in the heart of Europe, the Berggruen Institute held its first event yesterday at the Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, recently purchased by Nicolas Berggruen to create its European business center. To celebrate this milestone in its ten-year history, the US institution announced in the historic Giudecca palace that the philosopher Peter Singer is the recipient of the 2021 edition of the one million dollar Berggruen Prize for philosophy and culture, awarded every year to thinkers whose ideas have profoundly shaped the understanding and progress of the human self in a rapidly changing world. The Berggruen Prize is awarded annually by an independent jury to a thinker whose ideas are shaping human understanding of self to advance humanity. Peter Singer will receive the Award in the spring of 2022 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
