My | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, under the new direction of Gaia Tridente, presents the program of its eighth edition which will take place in Rome from 11 to 15 October 2022 at Palazzo Barberini and at the Cinema Barberini. Born in 2015 by the will of Anica (National Association of Audiovisual and Digital Film Industries) chaired by Francesco Rutelli and APA (Audiovisual Producers Association) chaired by Giancarlo Leone, MIA is today the most important sector event in Italy and has fully entered in the international agenda of events dedicated to audiovisual professionals who recognize the peculiarity of the market conceived with editorial care. A large participation of international top-players is expected, including large platforms (Amazon, AppleTV +, Netflix, Paramount +, Tubi) and an ensemble of producers, authors, distributors, agents, studios that will participate in a rich program of activities aimed at support international co-productions, the circulation of works and talents. Several news of this edition, such as the new editorial division dedicated to Animation which is added to those dedicated to Doc & Factual, Drama and Film. And again the B2B Exchange, a program to support the Ukrainian audiovisual industry, the partnership with Comicon for the identification of new contents from the world of comics that can become audiovisual productions and a rich program dedicated to innovation for creative industries. Also this year the Mia Digital platform will be active which will allow accredited persons to access all sessions remotely (live and on-demand). Also this year the Mia content showcases with sections C EU Soon, GreenLit, Italian Animation Showcase, Italians Doc it Better, Italian Factual Showcase and What’s Next Italy, will preview the most anticipated and interesting titles of next season. For the Drama division, GreenLit is back, the glossy event of the Drama section, which presents an international preview of a showcase dedicated to the most anticipated scripted Italian titles of next season. Among these: La Storia, a TV series based on Elsa Morante’s masterpiece directed by Francesca Archibugi and produced by Picomedia and Thalie Images in collaboration with Rai Fiction, the crime-thriller Brennero, a co-production of Rai Fiction-Cross Productions directed by Davide Marengo and Giuseppe Bonito. Sky Studios presents the series that tells the ferocious murder without a motive of Luca Varani, one of the most shocking cases of crime in recent years. Currently in development, the Sky Original series La città dei vivi, a Sky production with CinemaUndici and Lungta Film, based on the novel of the same name by Nicola Lagioia. Also unveiled is the dramedy series Sky Original produced by Sky and Greenland, They Killed Spider-Man – The True Story of 883 directed by Sydney Sibilia, making his directorial debut in a TV series. For the Film division, the historic appointment with What’s Next Italy, the work-in-progress program dedicated to the most recent Italian films, returns. International buyers will have the opportunity to preview trailers or scenes from films presented by directors, producers and distributors. The selection features three first works and two second works. The Titles: Like sheep in the midst of wolves by Lyda Patitucci. Patagonia, Simone Bozzelli’s feature film debut. The Doc & Factual section will have a particular focus on local stories for global audiences. We will talk about how to tell the real antiheroes, sports documentaries and film-making in war zones in Film-making within a war dedicated to Ukraine. The panels of the Drama division reflect on the theme of global productions for local markets. We will also discuss the potential of the metaverse as a space that favors the creation of content able to appeal to very young viewers, and as a new form of business and exploitation of IP and will be reflected on the new Fast model, free ad-supported television, and the continued rise of Avod streaming services.
