Irene Papas died, the Greek actress was 96 years old

The great Greek actress Irene Papas died at the age of 96 in Chiliomodi, near Corinth, where she was born on September 3, 1926 with the real name of Irene Lelekou. In 2018 it was announced that Papas had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for five years. Since then she has lived out of the public eye. The actress made her debut in international cinema with highly successful films such as “Cannons of Navarone” and “Zorba the Greek”. In 1968 she was chosen by the director Franco Rossi for the role of Penelope in the Rai TV drama “Odissea”.
