Andrea Valleri in ‘Neopaleo’, art meets archeology

The first of four exhibitions scheduled for 2022 by the Venetian artist Andrea Valleri begins on 14 July, promoted by the Contini Art Gallery of Venice and Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice. Valleri’s exhibitions are promoted by the Contini Art Gallery in collaboration with some of the most important Cultural Institutions of Venice and Greece: the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in VE, the National Archaeological Museum of Samos, the Byzantine and Christian National Museum of Athens, the National Epigraphic Museum of Athens, the Region of West Greece (Messolonghi). The Contini Art Gallery will publish a catalog (English-Greek-Italian) to accompany the exhibitions, containing the entire exhibition itinerary with the title Νεοπαλαιο (“Neopaleo”). The first exhibition takes place from 14 to 28 July in Venice, at the Bevilacqua La Masa headquarters in Piazza San Marco, hosting, in addition to the artist’s works, also a series of finds from the Byzantine and Christian Museums and the Epigraphic Museum. It is entitled “Venetia Classica Bysantium” in memory of the continuity between classical, Byzantine art and the Venetian tradition. It is presented by Professor Bruno Bernardi in the dual role of President of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation and of Consul of Greece in Venice. The second exhibition takes place from 4 to 13 August in Samos at the Archaeological Museum of Vathi; is entitled ΠΑΡΑΛΛΗΛΕΣ ΠΟΡΕΙΕΣ (Parallel Paths) as the works of Andrea Valleri are exhibited along the museum exhibition path, in direct comparison with the archaeological works.The third exhibition takes place from 17 to 27 August at Palazzo Chrisogelou, Cultural Institution of the Region of Messolonghi, a sacred city for Greece, because its inhabitants gave birth to the Revolution of 1821 for independence from the Ottomans. It is entitled ΣΥΜΒΙΟΣΗ (Symbiosis) as evidence both of the similar lagoon environment, of Venice and Messolonghi, and of the common history that has always linked Venice with Greece in the defense of Christian identity and, in particular, of national identity (think of example that the first President of the Republic of the Heptanese, in the year 1800, and of the liberated Greece, in the year 1821, was a Greek-Venetian: Giovanni Antonio Capodistria). The fourth exhibition takes place in Athens in December at the Epigraphic Museum; it is entitled ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟΣ (Dialogue) as an indication and conclusion of the idea according to which the history and the growth of culture come from a constant comparison of positions, both in the present and with the unavoidable models of the past that relive in our memory.
