The National Dance Foundation / Aterballetto becomes the first – and only – National Choreographic Center. The new position, at the top of the Italian dance sector, was sanctioned by the Ministry of Culture. “It is the right reward for a continuity of institutional presence in dance, ensured for years by the Region and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia – the regional councilor for Culture, Mauro Felicori – and for the freshness of current planning, aimed at conquering a growing European reputation. The Dance Foundation is one of the main players in our region’s ability to be a European artistic pole “. It is the result of a few years’ work, led by the president Azio Sezzi and by the general and artistic director Gigi Cristoforetti, aimed at expanding the design and operational articulation of the historic Emilian reality. Born as a company, and subsequently directed by Amedeo Amodio, Mauro Bigonzetti and Cristina Bozzolini with Giovanni Ottolini, Aterballetto became in 2003 the National Dance Foundation. With the latest management, the international projection has been amplified and collaborations and co-productions have been developed, both nationally and internationally as the next production, which sees the Aterballetto dancers on stage together with musicians and singers of the Toscanini Foundation, is co-produced by the Foundation The Theaters of Reggio Emilia and the Ludwigshafen Festival. Above all, the National Dance Foundation has favored planning attentive to hybridization with different disciplines, such as theater, music and contemporary art. It has distinguished itself for its attention to new technologies, with an extensive production activity not only for video, but also in Virtual Reality. And it has moved towards creations capable of enhancing disabled dancers. “It was the goal with which we began this adventure four years ago – summarize Azio Sezzi and Gigi Cristoforetti – Now the National Dance Foundation has an organizational structure and an artistic dimension of absolute international importance, thanks also to the director of the Sveva complex. Berti. We believe that this important recognition is not only a prize, but also an incentive to continue to reflect on the system functions and on the precise tasks that belong to the top reality of Italian dance. Projecting ourselves more and more beyond disciplinary barriers and geographical borders ” . “This very important result, which the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza has been working on in recent years, certifies not only the quality of the projects and ideas it knows how to implement, but also a clear vision of the future – says the mayor of Reggio Emilia, Luca Vecchi- This is how it has always been and will continue to be, as clearly evidenced by the ability of the structure and the company to “be reborn”, among the very first experiences in Europe ever, from the period of forced stop that the pandemic had imposed on the whole culture, with an inventiveness and vitality that have made the Foundation a point of reference in the national and international field “.
