Procida 2022, stories of pain and linen in the former Bourbon prison

“Threads of shadow, threads of light”. Procida 2022 tells the story of the old prison through an exhibition that traces the bond of the island with the fabrics worked by inmates and women from Procida. Open to the public from 23 June to 31 December. An emotional journey through the recent history of Procida, crossing a thin red line represented by linen fabrics, which the prisoners of Palazzo d’Avalos, a complex symbol of the island, worked during their detention and the island women carefully transformed into garments kit intended for the market throughout Italy. The exhibition embraces finished products, part of domestic life and traces, intertwining it with the events of the island, the history of linen, the phases of its transformation, the application that was made of it in the past and the one that most relates to contemporaneity. The exhibition is included in the cultural program of Procida Italian Capital of Culture 2022 and set up in the spaces of Palazzo d’Avalos, a place of shadows and pain, where the noise of the ancient looms will still be heard.
