The restoration site of the Casti Amanti insula in the archaeological park of Pompeii is underway. In fact, the launch of the reticular roofing structure of the insula (isolated) of the Casti Amanti is in these days, which will allow for a new roof and the creation of a path with elevated walkways for the visit, with a view to a renewed and better use to the public. The Casti Amanti insula includes two prestigious residences, the domus dei Casti Amanti, which takes its name from the famous picture with the exchange of the languid kiss between two lovers, coming from a triclinium with paintings depicting three banquets, and the house of the Painters at I work together with some shops. Bounded by Via di Nola and Via dell’Abbondanza, it is involved in an important restoration, roofing and reconfiguration of the slopes. The intervention in progress involves the construction of a new integrated roofing system that will free the entire insula from any interfering element with the use of the areas and which will rest only along the two alleys on which the insula faces, allowing the completion of the excavation. and the restoration of the entire insula. The new roof replaces an intrusive articulated and inorganic system of tubes, joints and corrugated sheets with a single spatial reticular structure with spherical nodes, seismically isolated. The new roofing system that will protect the wall structures together with the precious decorative wall and floor apparatuses preserved, will be integrated by an aerial path and entirely suspended over the excavations that will allow you to observe the insula from an unprecedented perspective through illuminated walkways also for accessibility. to the disabled on the level of the Pompeii plateau. With the aid of an imposing removable crane, the first two segments of the spatial reticular plate constituting the plan of the new roof were launched, having previously completed the foundation works and the pillars including the assembly of the seismic isolators on the head of the columns. “This intervention, which started with the planning of the financing of the Great Pompeii Project, represents one of the most important protection, restoration and enhancement sites currently being carried out at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii – declares the Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel – in this case it will allow thanks to the system of the walkways an innovative and global vision of the entire Insula, aimed at understanding the architecture of the Pompeian domus from multiple perspectives. “In the months of May and June the Archaeological Park of Pompeii opened to the public its most important development and restoration sites , allowing through the story and the live vision of the experts in the field – archaeologists, architects, restorers and engineers – to know the delicate and at the same time complex restoration activity, but also to be able to enjoy an absolute preview of residences of exceptional value and refinement or extraordinary condition of discovery. The last appointment is for June 23 at the Casti Amanti insula (and at the Polverificio Bourbonico in Scafati). The initiative is reserved for My Pompeii card subscribers and interested journalists.
