Farewell to Trintignant, from Brigitte Bardot to Il sorpasso: the films

Eclectic and elegant, endowed with a disturbing charm, Jean-Louis Trintignant, who died today at the age of 91, in his home in the Gard region, was one of the great stars of French cinema, who became famous with the role of the shy lover of the protagonist of “Et Dieu créa la femme” (1956; Italian title “Piace a too many”) by Roger Vadim, a film that launched the seductive Brigitte Bardot internationally. The actor managed to pass with equal intensity from the reserved young and naive of “Il sorpasso” (1962) by Dino Risi, to the ambiguous professor of “Il conformista” (1970) by Bernardo Bertolucci, to the cynical and icy killer of “Flic story” (1975) by Jacques Deray.
