Greek art and mythology to break down the taboos on female sexuality after cancer. This is the goal of the “Sensual Ballad”, the video performance open to the public from 27 to 29 May at the La Nica Gallery in Rome. The “Sensual Ballad” is the artistic event of Sexandthecancer which, through a single video divided into four rooms, brings together art, poetry, acting and music with the aim of informing and sensitizing the public on a theme that women they struggle to share. Sexandthecancer was born within Mamanonmama Aps chaired by Amalia Vetromile and is a social innovation project born in 2020 to break a deafening silence that surrounds a significant phenomenon of which in Italy too little is said even though it concerns 6% of Italian women: sexuality after cancer. The event is organized as part of the Sexandthecancer project, curated together with Mamanonmama APS and realized in collaboration with the Alinari Foundation for Photography and in partnership with Blindsight Project ODV. doctors, psychologists, set designers and many artists, including the playwright Maria Letizia Compatangelo and the teacher Beppe Vessicchio. “We are convinced that the language of art, supported by adequate scientific dissemination, can be a way to overcome the taboo of sexuality in the path of oncological treatments, a narrative in a transfigured and light way”, says Amalia Vetromile, promoter of Sexandthecancer . To welcome the public to the La Nica Gallery will be the exhibition of the thirty-two photographs contained in the video of the “Sensual Ballad” that will be screened throughout the course of the event. The photographs, as claimed by Rita Scartoni, project manager of the Alinari Foundation for Photography, are “images, fragments of reality and invention, sometimes extrapolated from their original context, which, as in a collage, come to compose the four rooms of the ballad: ‘The assault – The Beast’, ‘Inside the Trauma -‘ The nightmare ‘,’ The Different Beauty – The Beauty of the Offended Body ‘,’ Joyful Sensuality – The Revenge of Venus’ “. To the Gallery La Nica will be able to make a real experiential path, also usable by people with sensory disabilities thanks to the subtitles in the video and the descriptions, created by Blindsight Project Odv, linked to specific QR-codes. Every day, from 18.00 to hours 21.00, “Sexandthecancer – Sensual Ballad” will also present to the public a series of cultural meetings with the people who participated in the design and implementation of the project.
