-

On 23 May at 5 pm a large exhibition entitled: ‘Rome city of the Jubilee will be inaugurated in Rome at the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo in the presence of the Mayor of Rome Capital Roberto Gualtieri of State Government and Holy See – Transformations and evolutions of a city in the Holy Years’. The Event, conceived and organized by the European Center for Tourism and Culture of Rome chaired by Giuseppe Lepore in synergy with the Direction of the State Museums of the city of Rome and the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo directed by Mariastella Margozzi, and to The realization of which was also contributed by the professors of the degree course in Architecture and Industrial Design of the San Raffaele University of Rome, today it is of particular relevance especially in this historical moment, which in addition to the great post-pandemic difficulty, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is generating in world public opinion a great sense of discomfort in living everyday life. Today more than ever the world needs hope. The international health emergency and echoes of conflicts disturb our consciences that are increasingly scarred and lost. This is why it is important to give a concrete sign of restart, hope for the future and above all peace. The next Jubilee of 2025 is therefore an opportunity to awaken everyone’s conscience, a moment of reflection and stimulus to build a future of brotherhood and peace. The exhibition, ‘Rome city of the Jubilee’, created with the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism , of the Lazio Region and with the support of the San Raffaele University of Rome, Intesa Sanpaolo, Terna Spa, the LGA Service Consortium, Italpol and Pernice Editori was designed not only to illustrate the birth and evolution of this great religious event to the general public over the centuries and to celebrate the city that hosts it: Rome, but above all to stimulate reflection: the Jubilee is an opportunity for moral redemption and spiritual rebirth. themes in order to give as complete a vision as possible of how the religious event has transformed, not only the city, with architectural, artistic and urban planning projects, but also and above all how it has marked over the centuries and in various historical and political moments the perception of the sacred and of the relationship itself with God, inevitably influencing society. The topics covered will therefore be: The birth of the Jubilee and its evolution from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance; The Popes of the Jubilees; The city is transformed: projects and evolutions. The Jubilee today: new projects and new hopes The same works chosen for the exhibition are a concrete testimony of hope for their artistic and symbolic value. Papal portraits, great architectural works, allegories and the same objects are stimuli to build a more human, hospitable and peaceful future. The bond between Rome and the Jubilee of the Catholic Church is indissoluble. They were in fact occasions for an urban, economic, cultural and artistic development of the city, with interventions undertaken in previous years and subsequently representing for Rome an important moment for its urban transformation and evolution. in two different categories: the first is linked to the need to welcome the large influx of pilgrims and at the same time give an image of the grandeur and magnificence of Rome; these projects are generally implemented in the years immediately preceding the Jubilee. The second type is the consequence of the Holy Year and includes all those interventions carried out immediately after its celebration. In essence, almost all the Jubilees were great occasions that substantially and permanently transformed the appearance of Rome. The choice of Castel Sant’Angelo as the location for the exhibition is not accidental. It represents an important and symbolic place for the history of Rome, from the Roman period to the modern and contemporary one, and for the citizens and pilgrims who have crowded the capital of Christianity over the centuries. The castle itself is a key and emblematic place in the history of the Catholic Church and the various Popes who lived, enriched and transformed it. The famous “passetto”, only 800 meters long and which still today connects the Vatican City with the Italian territory, is itself a symbol of union and historical continuity.
