Dance, Out of Program Festival, returns to India Aterballetto

Aterballetto will be in Rome on 12 July at 7.45 pm with ‘Corpi / Bodies’, an ad hoc event for the Fuori Programma – international contemporary dance festival, in its sixth edition, dedicated to the Geography of relationships. ‘Corpi / Bodies’ will be an event that takes up a project of the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto, specially rearranged for the festival, which on 12 July in Rome inaugurates the programming part of the festival at the India Theater Arena. Introduced by a story by the choreographer Diego Tortelli, protagonist of this project, which reveals to the public the dynamics of the creative process. Corpi / Bodies is a four-piece program signed by the young choreographer. ‘Maudit Reloaded’ which reflects on abandoning the body to madness and ‘Another Story’ which traces the history of the most feared gesture in this period, the embrace, both to music by Spiritualized, ‘Preludio’, a creation for five performers built around to some of Nick Cave’s most intense poems and passages, and profane prayer to celebrate the body. And finally, ‘Sonata in trio’ Diego Tortelli, resident choreographer of the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto, together with the complicity of Gaia Clotilde Chernetich, dramaturg and dance scholar, tells the audience how a creative idea can be transformed into dance . The choreographer will show live, in a simple and engaging way, the creative process of a choreography, accompanied by Aterballetto dancer Sandra Salietti Aguilera. The meeting takes up a format born from a choreographic laboratory led by Gaia Clotilde Chernetich with the dancers of the company. In ‘Maudit Reloaded’ a dancer through her broken movement wants to tell the tragedy and constant innovation of the body, a dance that does not wait for the time that passes, but which shapes it to its satisfaction by speeding up and slowing down the hours to show its dexterity, beauty, distortion and memory. The freedom of bodily expression of this poetic takes place through the abandonment of the body to madness. As the ‘maudit’ faces its place in society by destroying every rational link to abandon itself to an experience of its own, the dancer will face the reflection of her image portrayed in the photograph, giving life, madness and fantasy to the place where she was portrayed, constantly recreating itself and giving a body and sensitivity to the city, being itself a poetic and wonderful subject. ‘Another story’ wants to tell the new story of the most feared and at the same time desired gesture of 2020, hit by a global epidemic, the hug. A gesture as simple as a hug has now been reinvented by adding infinite variations to its most basic meaning, transforming itself into the most hidden desire and, on the contrary, into an almost ‘terrorist’ act, without however losing its profound meaning of effective carnal sharing. ‘Another story’ therefore becomes a solitary embrace, a shared embrace, a violent, painful, tiring and even desired, hidden, intimate, idolized embrace … the only prediction we cannot rely on is how this simple gesture will continue its mutation. What the choreographer Diego Tortelli intends to do is to write him another story to be heard and observed mutually between performer and spectator. ‘Prelude’ is a creation for 5 performers built around some of the most intense poems and songs by Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave, one of the greatest exponents of Post Punk. In these his poems Cave deals with the intertwining of themes such as love, ‘creed’, addiction, obsession and loss, intersecting each other as if he were telling a story, an experience that can be perceived by everyone through his use of notes or tone of voice. Its strength is that it is not essential to fully understand its content or source of inspiration in order to ‘feel’ and ‘be heard’. Through his work Cave argues that we should not go to the theater, to a concert, to a museum, to understand, but to ask ourselves questions and to enrich ourselves, to analyze ourselves. “In one of his poems, which appears as second passage in my work, I found the question I wanted to ask myself for this creation: Mah Sanctum (my creed) – explains Tortelli – What do I believe in? I believe in the ‘body’, I believe in its fragility and strength, in its limit and in its its expansion, in its capacity for change and constant transformation, I believe in its contemporaneity, but also in its ability to continue to feel those emotions that have been handed down to us “. “I believe in its violent beauty and frightening fragility – adds the young choreographer – In this work I search above all on these obsessions, compulsions, addictions, contrasts, transforming the bodies of the 5 dancers not into men and women, but into emotional stimuli. of written poems of which it would be enough to understand the fact that they do not end there on the scene. ‘Prelude – he concludes – is my profane prayer, my love letter to the body, my creed today “.
