Ambra Angiolini unties her ‘knot’ at the Ambra Jovinelli theater in Rome

Ambra all’Ambra: the Roman actress Ambra Angiolini is engaged at the Ambra Jovinelli theater in Rome, starring with Arianna Scommegna in the drama of the American writer Johanna Adams, ‘The knot’, until February 27 under the direction of Serena Sinigaglia. The work, based on a continuous dialogue between the two actresses, never interrupted on stage, is set in a classroom and involves sensitive social and psychological issues, from bullying to gender identity, as well as the triple relationship between children and parents, teachers. pupils, parents-teachers. The story revolves around a summoning of a mother to school, after the suspension decided by the principal and the teaching staff of her son, who then committed suicide. A meeting that the school already gave as ‘naturally’ canceled, but that the parent instead insists on wanting to support, in the sixth grade class and in front of the empty desk, to bring out the reasons, the character, the thoughts and feelings of the child which is now gone. But, as the author warns, the ‘when’ is more important than the ‘where’ and above all the why ‘, raising many questions about what are the educational responsibilities of parents and teachers, about the circumstances and the faults that transform a child into victim or executioner, on what can trigger violence or even a suicide. “The work ‘The knot’ is not simply a theatrical text on bullying, but it is above all an unveiled confrontation on the intimate reasons that generate it – explains Serena Sinigaglia in his director’s notes – a text that dares to ask itself the absolute questions, as happens in Greek tragedies, looking for causes and not effects. Today we have digital platforms to tell stories, to report relevant facts and actions; but the theater serves to to lay bare, in the synthesis and intensity that distinguish him, the deepest human contradictions, the ultimate reasons for his action “.
