Delia Fiallo, the mother of Latin American soap operas, has died

Cuban writer and screenwriter Delia Fiallo, considered the ‘mother of Latin American soap operas’, author of dozens of famous television soap operas, including “Esmeralda”, “Cristal” and “Leonela”, died on Tuesday 29 June in her Coral Gables, Florida home. His disappearance occurred just five days after his 97th birthday. Born in Havana on July 4, 1924, Fiallo began writing subjects for TV in 1949. In 1966 she left Cuba, after being ostracized by the Communist regime, and settled in Miami, Florida. Over the course of his long career, Fiallo has signed 43 telenovelas, reaching tens of millions of people in Latin America and Spain and then captivating a global audience in more than one hundred countries. At the same time he wrote episodes for another forty or so soap operas. His first soap opera produced was “Soraya” in 1956. He has written the scripts of great hits such as “Rosario”, “Maria Teresa”, “Peregrina”, “Rafaela”, “La Zulianita”, “Maria del Mar”, “Emilia “,” Ligia Sandoval “,” Virginia “,” Topazio “,” Maria “,” Monte Calvario “,” Stellina “,” Roberta “,” Maribel “,” Fabiola “,” Gardenia “,” Free to love “. In 1983 he signed “Leonela”, a soap opera considered one of the all-time success classics, but which aroused a lot of controversy, because the protagonist ends up falling in love with her rapist.
