Berlinale 2022, Carla Simon’s ‘Alcarras’ wins the Golden Bear

Berlinale 2022, Carla Simon’s ‘Alcarras’ won the coveted Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival. This was announced by the jury of the Festival, led by Hollywood director M Night Shyamalan. The film tells the story of the daily struggles of a group of peach farmers in Spain, and how workers are pushed to the edge of their existence. Eighteen works were in contention for the Golden Bear as best film. This year’s Berlinale is open to the public, but under Covid restrictions, theaters will only be half-filled and only those who have been vaccinated or recently recovered will be admitted. The days it is open to the public are after the awards ceremony, and the entire festival closes on Sunday.
