Filippo Dini and Valerio Binasco meet at the ‘Spank’ for the Parioli theater in Rome

The new production directed by Filippo Dini and relating to ‘Spank’, the latest text written by the English playwright of Pakistani origin Hanif Kureishi, which sees the director and actor flanked by Valerio Binasco, on stage until Sunday at Parioli theater in Rome. Filippo Dini and Valerio Binasco interpret two profoundly different friends, one a dentist and the other a pharmacist, “linked by a solid mutual affection but with a dimension of complicity that suddenly cracks, highlighting contradictions and divergences with unimaginable outcomes”, as is explains in the director’s notes. The two protagonists, Sonny and Vargas, have met for several years at Spank, the place that gives the comedy its title: they drink, chat, have families who in turn know and hang out. But an episode, apparently of little consequence, opens a rift in their relationship: the two argue angrily, to the point of questioning the same friendship and even their own lives in crisis.
