In Syracuse the cycle of classical theater starts again with ‘Coefore-Eumenidi’ and ‘Baccanti’

In Syracuse everything is ready for the debut of the 56th season of the Inda, the national institute of ancient drama, which marks the restart of classical performances at the Greek Theater, with the debut on 3 and 4 July of ‘Coefore-Eumenidi’ of Aeschylus and Euripides’ ‘Bacchantes’, preceded by the inauguration on the first day of the month of the multimedia exhibition’ Orestea ‘at Palazzo Greco on the resumption of classical shows after the Great War and the Spanish epidemic, which will remain open to the public until to 30 September 2022, and then filmed in other Italian cities and abroad. Through this exhibition, created starting from the collection of unpublished photographs by Angelo Maltese and thanks to archival documents and new audiovisual technologies, the Inda Foundation returns to the historical enterprise of that group of enlightened patrons who, gathered around the Gargallo brothers of Castel Lentini, invested on their own to bring about the rebirth of the Greek Theater.The staging of the exhibition, curated by Carmelo Iocolano under the supervision of Davide Livermore, includes a ‘Space of Time’ that will allow the spectator to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Greek Theater a hundred years ago, thanks to a video made by Alain Parroni who, through augmented reality, sets the images of Angelo Maltese in motion. The exhibition, curated by Marina Valensise, managing director of the Inda Foundation, under the supervision of Davide Livermore, will be open every day from 5 to 9 pm with a catalog published by Electa. On Saturday 3 July at 8 pm the show will debut at the Greek Theater ‘ Coefore-Eumenidi ‘by Aeschylus, directed by Davide Livermore, director of the National Theater of Genoa who co-produced the show. On stage, “a system of destroyed power, where the ghost of Agamemnon impregnates a stage of manifest devastation and explains how the narration of the story will be as close as possible to our times because as artists we have the responsibility to give life to the words of the tragedy , living and pulsating material that tells of human frailties, sometimes terrible “, explains in the director’s notes. In the cast, Laura Marinoni (Clitennestra), Giuseppe Sartori (Oreste), Anna Della Rosa (Elettra), Stefano Santospago (Egisto) , Giancarlo Judica Cordiglia (Apollo), Olivia Manescalchi (Athena), Maria Grazia Solano (Cilissa and the Pizia), Gaia Aprea, Alice Giroldini, Valentina Virando, Chiara Osella, Graziana Palazzo and Silvia Piccollo (Le Coefore), Maria Laila Fernandez, Marcello Gravina and Turi Moricca (Erinni-Eumenidi). On Sunday 4th July the premiere of Euripides’ ‘Baccanti’ will be staged under the direction of Carlus Padrissa, the Catalan director and founder of the company La Fura dels Baus. The exhibition will not fail to reserve great surprises with levers, cranes, ropes and pulleys that “will compose an aesthetic Deus ex machina, highlighting the bodies which, together with the natural elements, will help to perceive an ancient but modern image” . In the cast, Lucia Lavia (Dionysus), Ivan Graziano (Penteo), Antonello Fassari (Tiresia), Linda Gennari (Agave), Stefano Santospago (Cadmo).
