The ex Pooh is better but is still recovering from the bad infection that forced him to hospitalize in recent weeks. But the musical he composed and created, in three years of intense work, is ready. The musical theater blockbuster, taken from Matteo Strukul’s best-seller “Giacomo Casanova – the sonata of broken hearts”, is set in Venice and dedicated to one of the most famous Italian characters in the world, Giacomo Casanova. And from Venice it kicks off, with a triple sold out until Sunday, with 21 performers on stage, 2 hours of music and 35 unreleased songs sung live, 120 costumes, over 30 scene changes, immersive sets and innovative stylistic choices. After Venice, Casanova Opera Pop will be on tour until March in Bergamo, Udine, Milan, Treviso and Turin. Casanova Opera Pop, is the first unpublished musical theater show to be staged after the reopening of full capacity theaters. “They have been two very long and difficult years for theater and music and still the difficulties are not over, but I fought with all my strength, myself and all the wonderful people involved in this project, to go on stage with Casanova Opera Pop in this early 2022, without waiting any longer “, says Red.” In the excitement of these last few days of rehearsals before making its debut in Venice, in a fully booked theater for three evenings – demonstrating how much we all miss of the stage – I look at our show as a tenaciously desired child, who grows wonderful day after day and who I can’t wait to show to the world, wishing him a long and satisfying life for him “, adds. Casanova Opera Pop, in 2 hours of show in two acts, with over 30 scene changes built with a very high definition projection technique with an immersive effect, 120 costumes designed by Desirée Costanzo and created by Atelier Stefano N icolao (nominated for costumes in the Oscar-winning film Eyes Wide Shut), and directed by Emanuele Gamba – whose experience ranges from prose (he is Artistic Director of the Goldoni Theater in Livorno), to Opera (with Claudio Abbado), to musical theater (Spring Awakening, I Promessi Sposi di Guardì) – says Giacomo Casanova at an age of around 35, returning from exile and staunch defender of Venice from the power games that would like to sell it to a foreigner. : “I have long cherished the idea of composing a musical work dedicated to the City of Venice, perhaps the only one in the world of such notoriety that does not have ‘its’ musical, and to Giacomo Casanova, one of the universally known Italian characters, but so far told in a somewhat monothematic key, while I wanted to represent him in the many nuances that make him one of the most interesting historical figures that Italy and Venice in particular can boast “. In Giacomo Casanova’s part we find Gia n Marco Schiaretti, one of the purest talents raised in Italy and also successful abroad. Next to him, in the part of the enchanting and strong-willed Francesca Erizzo, destined to conquer his heart, the young and already successful Angelica Cinquantini, familiar face of television drama. The role of the wicked, ready to take advantage of a moment of fragility of the Serenissima and of the Doge who governs it, is entrusted to the bearded vulture, or the powerful and corrupt Inquisitor Pietro Garzoni who without the slightest scruple is ready to sweep away all this by any means. who is an obstacle to obtaining the power of the cardinal, and to Manuela Zanier, or the perfidious Countess Von Steinberg, an Austrian noble not insensitive to the charm of Casanova, but ready to weave deadly plots to pursue her own interest and exercise her charm according to convenience .With them on stage, to paint the picture of a Venice whose history and salvation are played out between the bácari populated by various humanity and the rich palaces of power, a series of characters with different facets. Then a peaceful and grumpy Friar Balbi, played by Paolo Barillari; the offended boyfriend Alvise ready to challenge Casanova to a duel and the noble Mocenigo both played by Jacopo Sarno; the perfidious Zago to whom Roberto Colombo lends his face and a physicality transformed by perfidy; the Doge Loredan and the noble of lineage and heart Bragadin, both played by Antonio Orler; up to the vast female world so fascinated by Casanova, as it is indispensable to untie the knots of history. Then Elena of Padua, Casanova’s favorite courtesan played by Silvia Scartozzoni; the beautiful Rosa, owner of the Cantina do Mori and capable of interpreting the signs that hide the dark plots, in whose clothes we find Rosita Denti; finally the melancholy and unfortunate Gretchen, with the face of Alice Grasso, the Countess’s maid and predestined victim of the unscrupulous perfidy of the Inquisitor and the enslaved Zago. The cast is completed with a corps de ballet of 10 acrobatic dancers – Mirko Aiello, Cassandra Bianco, Alberto Chianello, Eleonora Dominici, Federica Esaminato, Mattia Fazioli, Filomena Fusco, Raffaele Guarino, Vittoria Markov and Olaf Olguin – who in the warrior-style choreography of Martina Nadalini and Roberto Carrozzino, in various moments interpret the Shadows, the Venetians at the Carnival, the nobles in celebration and the choral moments of history. “I thought of Casanova Operapop – says Red Canzian – with the development of the Italian opera, in which the story and the characters take shape through the music and the words of the songs , written by Miki Porru, and where the dialogues will punctuate the story in a few moments, albeit very important. To render the epic spirit of the compositions, masterfully arranged by Phil Mer, we recorded the Symphony Orchestra of Padua and Veneto, conducted by Maestro Carmelo Patti, fused with the modern sounds of a band “. The creative team is completed by Chiara Canzian, at the direction of songs and resident director of Casanova Opera Pop during the tour, and two professionals from the Teatro La Fenice: the lighting designer Fabio Barettin and the director of the stage set-ups Massimo Checchetto. Their real works of genius are the frame of what Red has conceived as an immersive stage set, made up of photographs taken in the deserted Venice during the pandemic and treated in such a way as to convey settings of the city and its places of a surprising hyperrealism , capable of transporting spectators into the places of an eighteenth-century Venice, the bacari, the calli, the palaces of the nobility, the Cathedrals, Piazza San Marco, the lagoon, the prison of the Piombi, and those of the escape between the woods and the Castles of Northern Italy before the return of Casanova as savior of the Serenissima in the Venice of the Doge and finally in love with the young Francesca, daughter of the Venetian aristocracy but, like her beloved, with a heart thirsting for justice and freedom. Blu Notte, i.e. by Red Canzian himself, who in this role follows the Artistic Direction, and by his wife Beatrix Niederwieser, who follows all the performances of the show. operating breasts, making use of the collaboration of Retropalco in the executive production. After the debut in Venice the show will be on tour until March 13, 2022 at the Creberg Theater in Bergamo on January 28 and 29, at the Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine in Udine from 1 to 3 February, at the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milan from 9 to 20 February, at the Teatro Comunale Mario del Monaco in Treviso in the week from 22 to 25 February and at the Alfieri Theater in Turin from 8 to 13 March.
