A less “shady” news program compared to that of state television, with a more informal character, ready to give more space to the news. But also on the hunt for scoops and rigorous in the narration of the crises of the time, such as that of Tangentopoli. The success of Tg5, which will turn 30 tomorrow, is the result of a great “team game”. Emilio Carelli, who in 1992 took part in the founding of Tg5 as deputy director and host of the 1pm edition, thus remembers with AdnKronos the early days of that television adventure, underlining that the clash with Tg1 “was immediately a success”. “First of all – says Carelli – I have a memory of that day, of that 13 January 1992: we were all very excited, very energized, we really put all our soul into making a new and different news program even if we didn’t realize, maybe , of the historical moment of Italian journalism that we were living. A moment that would then change the way of doing television information. We had very clear ideas led by Enrico Mentana who, despite being young, had very clear ideas: making a news program much less swamped by Tg1 of the time which was a news program that always opened on politics, which put the news in the last places. We cleared the field of all these prejudices. We were also willing to open with a great news story when it was there “. “The nice thing – continues Carelli – was that many expected that the fact that we collided with Tg1 at 20 would be a kind of failure. But it was immediately a great success. People perceived that we were using or a new language, many images, a totally different lineup criterion and it was a success “. In this regard, Carelli underlines that “Enrico Mentana immediately said ‘no hunchback’. We were all invited to tell the news in our own words. And this was important and people felt it. It was a revolution also for a whole series of scoops. that we did. I remember the first television interview with Erich Priebke, or the story of the kidnapping of little Farouk Kassam, a story in which we played a leading role “. “And then – underlines Carelli – I must remember the serious and rigorous way in which we followed Tangentopoli. Tg5 proved to be, through Andrea Pamparana, also the most prepared. One of the reasons for the success was the great street game we made with Lamberto Sposini, Clemente Mimun, Cesare Buonamici, Cristina Parodi. We were united, we were a team, even of friends, very close-knit. There was great mutual respect, great willingness to put up with each other and that was a bit the secret of the recipe. We were guided by what I consider the number one in television news in Italy, Enrico Mentana, with whom we all have a great relationship of esteem and friendship “.
