Esseho sings about love, when it tastes like ‘Aspartame’

It’s sweet, but love can hurt. And the young singer-songwriter, Esseho, talks about its lights and shadows in the new album which, not surprisingly, takes its title from the title track ‘Aspartame’. “We used to hold each other all night / We hated each other / Don’t try to pretend / Reason hurts / You are aspartame to me / Two tears were enough to confuse us / We are small and ridiculous / You want me / You own me / We sit on the sidewalks”, This Roman multi-instrumentalist, author and producer, born in 1997, sings. The young Esseho, aka Matteo Montalesi, proposes a journey within the new generations in his first album ‘Aspartame’ (Bomba Dischi / Universal Music), a journey made up of sweet moments to savor and controversial relationships. Esseho, who has chosen the nickname of his life as a gamer as his stage name, debuted last year with the single ‘Bambi’, very popular on the main streaming platforms, followed by the singles ‘Constellazioni’ and ‘Michelle’, both recently. inserted in the soundtrack of the second season of the Netflix series ‘Summertime’, loved by the new generations. ‘Aspartame’ wants to be “a simple, belly-type record”: in every single phrase that makes up the songs there is, in fact, a piece of the artist’s life. Much of the project stems from acoustic guitar laps, where different musical worlds come together. And the mix draws attention. The disc is the result of the work of Esseho and of the artistic partnership with Niccolò Contessa (founder and frontman of I Cani), Sine (producer of Noyz Narcos and Gemello), Orang3 (producer of many artists such as Coez, Achille Lauro, Gemitaiz and Salmo ) and two young producers such as Amanda Lean and Not for Climbing, who co-produced some of the tracks on the album. The first dates of her first tour, ‘Esseho Unplugged Tour’, have been announced a few days ago, an occasion in which Esseho will make itself known in the round, author and multi-instrumentalist as he is. “I imagine this summer’s live shows in an intimate dimension where the lyrics are linked to my primary instrument, the guitar. Playing in the company of my stringed instruments will be exciting – he says – I’m working to find its uniqueness in the sound mood , where according to the song I will choose an instrument, from the twelve-string guitar to the acoustic guitar I am looking for that magic touch that leaves a trace. I will interpret my belly songs, without too many studies, listening to me moment by moment “.
