The dark side of genre film, from tomorrow ‘Beyond the mirror’ for the Milan Film Festival 2021

Twenty-three films in seven days. This is the program of the rich program of the third edition of “Beyond the mirror Milano Film Festival”, an initiative focused on the genres of fantasy, science fiction, thriller and horror to create spaces for confrontation with contemporary society. The international event will start tomorrow, Thursday 18, continuing until Wednesday 24 November, at the Gregorianum Hall (via Lodovico Settala 27) and the Bruno Munari Theater (Via Giovanni Bovio 5). The vision path stems from the desire to bring back to the center of reflection “the importance and centrality of genre cinema”, as the organizers explain. USA, Canada, Iran, Indonesia, Mexico, Denmark, Vietnam, Italy, Germany, Switzerland , Sweden, Malaysia, United Kingdom, South Africa and France: the productions involved come from these countries, which will see new works alternate, some in national preview within the categories in competition, Newcomers and out of competition. Among the goodies, there are also a couple of Danish silent films from the early twentieth century, visible thanks to the Danish Arts Foundation.The aim of the Festival is also to build a network of knowledge that can involve associations, institutions and cultural personalities, both local and international, specialized in different fields, to put them in communication with each other and involve the public in a shared and interdisciplinary discourse. In particular, the 2021 edition aims to strengthen the relationship with the city of Milan, starting from the Isola district, which will host the screenings. Beyond the mirror is an initiative created with the contribution of the Lombardy Region, the Cariplo Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation, the Fiera Milano Foundation, with the patronage of the Municipality of Milan and in collaboration with the Catholic University and the University of Milan.
