Dead Gavan O’Herlihy, the Chuck Cunningham of ‘Happpy Days’

Irish naturalized American actor Gavan O’Herlihy, known for appearing in the first series of the telefilm “Happy Days” as “Chuck”, the eldest son of the Cunningham family, has died at the age of 70. The news of the disappearance, which took place on November 9, is reported by the Irish newspaper “The Irish Echo”. Born on July 29, 1951 in Dublin, a very young tennis champion, Gavan O’Herlihy began acting while attending Trinity College. In 1973 he moved to Los Angeles and won an audition in Hollywood, immediately joining the cast of the TV series “Happy Days” as the older brother of Richie (Ron Howard) and Joanie (Erin Moran). In the middle of the first season, which aired in 1974, the actor disappears from the small screen: it is only known that “Chuck” is going to college. “The Bionic Woman”, “Disneyland”, “Pepper Anderson Special Agent”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “Marcus Welby”. In 1980 O’Herlihy moved to England, settled in London and for a period also lived in a houseboat on the Thames. He later bought and lived in a lighthouse in Wales. Eventually he settled on an English farm. He has occasionally worked in cinema, appearing in small roles among other films: “A wedding” by Robert Altman (1978), “Never say never” (1983), “Superman III” (1983), “The executioner of the night 3” (1985), Ron Howard’s “Willow” (1988), “Shooter – Bombing in Prague” (1995), “The Mystery of Prince Valiant” (1997), “The Casino of Fear” (1997) and “The Descent Part 2 “(2009).
