Climate: on November 13 the musical debut of Pope Francis’ Laudato Sì

It is a real hymn to the green revolution “Laudato Sì”, the piece by Pope Bergoglio that soprano Maria Carfora will perform exclusively for the first time in Europe on the occasion of the International Festival of Sacred Music and Art. Inspired by the encyclical of the same name, the Salerno artist decided to set to music and sing, with the collaboration of the international maestro Romano Musumarra who composed the music, the integral prayer that the Pope dedicates to the rebirth and defense of the environment: thus “Laudato Sì”, which is preparing to “debut” for the first time in St. Peter’s Basilica, on Saturday 13 November. The “location” is exceptional, but also the primacy: for the first time, in fact, a Pope “signs” a song written entirely by him and appears, therefore, as the complete author of the text. And if the “greats” of the Earth, first in Rome on the occasion of the G20 and in Glasgow then for the COP26 on climate – discuss environment and climate change, in the Vatican the debate becomes music, it becomes harmony and invades the Basilica with its notes di San Pietro where the soprano will interpret the piece accompanied by the organ only. It is the first time in Europe after the performance of the artist from Campania on October 14, 2019 in New York, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, on the occasion of Columbus Day. Notes and spirituality come together in what is born as prayer and becomes, of fact, universal message of great social value: of extraordinary relevance, and of Franciscan memory, “Laudato Sì” is a passage that moves and makes us reflect on the importance of protecting and safeguarding that “common home” of which Pope Bergoglio speaks in Encyclical, that is, our Earth, today in danger. And this clear contribution impresses and moves. “I was struck by the reading of Pope Francis’ Encyclical and, although I knew that the path to obtain the authorization to sing his prayer exclusively would have been long and difficult, I worked hard to make this wish of mine come true, as it was then, with my enormous gratitude to the Pope, “said Maria Carfora who built her career as a super ano all over the world, spokesperson for Italian bel canto and culture. “The grandeur of the Holy Father’s invitation to environmental sustainability – explains Carfora – the attention to the ‘common home’ and to greater protection of the environment and all living forms is of extraordinary relevance and I felt inspired by the wonderful words that Pope Francis was able to express ”.
