Gabriele Lavia: “I prepare a double Pirandello, in Italian and in Sicilian”

It will be ‘Il berretto a rattle’ but also ‘A birritta cu i ciancianeddi’ to see Gabriele Lavia engaged – now at the Quirino theater in Rome as director and leading actor with ‘The laws of gravity’ based on the novel by the French writer Jean Teulé, together to life and stage partner Federica Di Martino – for her ‘reductio ad unum’ of the comedy – which Luigi Pirandello wrote first in Sicilian dialect and then in Italian – which will be entitled ‘Il berretto a rattle – A birrita’. “In December we will start rehearsals and next year the show will be staged”, Lavia teases at AdnKronos. “I will mix the two versions, the Italian and the Sicilian: some characters will speak only in language, others only in dialect, others like the protagonist, a little in Italian and a little in Sicilian – explains the actor and director – This adaptation involves a very long job and fortunately uses Sara Zappulla Muscarà’s critical version of the very beautiful Sicilian, which also helped me a lot for some lines that were originally cut by the then comedian Angelo Musco “.
