Monza, the first BrianzAcque Water Park inaugurated in Arcore

A lot of participation, a lot of interest and a lot of curiosity characterized the opening to the public of the first BrianzAcque Water Park in Arcore. An innovative green infrastructure format, capable of integrating the containment of rainwater with the naturalistic enhancement of the places and the possibility of using them for playful, educational and recreational purposes. The inaugural ceremony with the traditional ribbon cutting took place in the afternoon and saw the intervention of the President and CEO of BrianzAcque, Enrico Boerci, the newly elected mayor of the city of Brianza, Maurizio Bono and the Vice President of the Province of Monza and Brianza, Riccardo Borgonovo. Boerci began: “I am happy and proud to deliver this prototype of green space to the local community and to all those who want to use it. The result of a multidisciplinary and adaptive design to the challenges of climate change, the innovative and sustainable Water Park goes beyond the concept of a flywheel pool. It is an evolution of it as a structure, on the one hand, useful for protecting the territory from flooding and, on the other, attractive to allow you to enjoy a natural environment designed also with social and aggregation purposes for young and old “. his part, Bono said: “With great pleasure I am witnessing the inauguration of the first Water Park, an innovative public city park that combines attention to the respect and enhancement of the natural resources present in the area. The values ​​that it can transmit will certainly be inspiring and educational for all its visitors. Considering the great social value of this project, which contributes to enriching the Arcorese city life, it will be the responsibility of the Administration to try to enhance it more and more in the years to come. ” Borgonovo said: “It is a splendid achievement that goes towards a new concept of rainwater disposal. An intervention that will be reported in the territorial intervention guidelines of the PTCP under approval and which is perfectly aligned with the regional law on hydraulic invariance “. The work, carried out in nine months, in full compliance with the time schedule, along one hectare of land owned by the municipality, is located between via Monte Bianco and via Gran Sasso. Developed by the design and planning sector of the hydro monoutility with the contribution of well-known architectural and engineering firms, it cost about 650 thousand euros, of which 359 financed by the Lombardy Region under the Framework Agreement for Territorial Development ” Northern Lambro River Contract ”. Protective. Naturalistic. And participatory. Visually, the basic structure of the Water Park, with the leitmotif of the blue gold landscape, consists of an infiltration basin for the collection of rainwater. A large natural reservoir, planted with species of hygrophilous vegetation, able to accommodate, to accumulate water up to a capacity of 14 thousand cubic meters, and then slowly disperse it. A green lawn on which, in the absence of rain, you can safely walk, a symbol and landmark of the park itself. All around, the green infrastructure, conceived as an opportunity to reconstruct the environment and landscape with the ambition of promoting a new ecological culture and offering functions for community use. And so a small lake, paths and pedestrian paths were created up to intercept the existing cycle and pedestrian paths with rest areas for picnics, spaces for playful and didactic-educational activities for children and adults. Again: common gardens, limited by rainwater channels for irrigation, to guarantee sustainable and conscious management of the water resource. And of course, self-powered water features through pumping systems without using electricity. The whole context is embellished by the planting of elements typical of the Brianza agricultural landscape: rows, lawn, lonely trees and urban furniture elements made with absolutely natural and recyclable materials. An ideal scenario to provide not only the local community, but also the new tourist flows of proximity developed with the pandemic, moments and opportunities for leisure, relaxation, meeting and cultural and social growth. Arcore represents the pilot project of a series of similar green infrastructures that BrianzAcque will replicate in other municipalities of the managed area, where there are needs related to the containment of rainwater and where spaces allow it. Between Bernareggio and Carnate, within the sports area of ​​CTL3, a second water park is already at an advanced stage of construction which covers an area of ​​24,000 square meters, double that of Arcorese. The completion of the works is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022. This work also sees the co-financing of the Lombardy Region for 1.13 million euros, half of the economic commitment of 2, 26 million euros. Also in the Vimercatese area, a third intervention between Sulbiate and Aicurzio and others will follow. In this sense, the Water Parks represent further pieces that the public manager of the integrated water service of Monza and Brianza adds to the plan of progressive adaptation measures to climate change aimed at making the reference territory increasingly resilient. Massimiliano Ferazzini, director of the design and business planning sector: With this work, BrianzAcque responds to the growing need to equip the territory with effective defense strategies against the effects of climate change, at the same time bringing value in terms of urban regeneration and usability of spaces. Rainwater management thus becomes an opportunity to bring widespread multi-objective benefits. A special logo has been coined to mark and identify the BrianzAcque Water Parks. In a circular base that incorporates the corporate brand and which symbolizes the embrace and protection of the place, a blue circle representing the water and a path are inserted as a reference to the cycle and pedestrian paths. The logo culminates with a stylized butterfly. In addition to recalling the concept of nature, this insect is perhaps the most fascinating animal in its transformation. A metamorphosis that takes place with the regeneration of spaces in green oases and with the subsequent making available to the community.
