From 28 to 30 September the new edition of Omc-Med Energy Conference

Omc has always been attentive and sensitive to the evolution of energy scenarios. Born in Ravenna as an event in the oil & gas sector, it has constantly set itself the goal of responding to the needs of energy companies, creating a forum where to analyze and discuss technologies and strategies to be implemented, involving authorities, companies, professionals and institutions. It was therefore inevitable that OMC intercepted the strong push towards a new concept of sustainable development, based on a different energy mix and technological innovation. For this reason, in this year’s event – which will be at the Pala De André in Ravenna from 28 to 30 September – some relevant innovations have been introduced. First of all, the name of the event has become Omc-Med Energy Conference to reiterate the attention to the issues of energy at 360 degrees, extending the perimeter of the event to all sectors of the industry with a holistic approach. The event aims to become the center of transversal debate on energy in the Mediterranean, attracting institutions, companies, the scientific and investor community as well as involving young people, startups and research centers to create together shared development paths that lead to climate objectives and of future growth. The periodicity has therefore become annual, because the meeting and constant debate on these issues is necessary and a priority. Omc history and numbers The Offshore Mediterranean Conference and Exhibition (Omc) was founded in 1993 by the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce, Assomineraria (Confindustria) and the Ravenna Oil & Gas Operators Association (Roca), which founded the OMC scrl company. The initiative is liked and the main oil & gas companies decide to support the event by joining. From edition to edition, the “club of associates” grows, today there are 12: Baker Hughes, DG Impianti, Halliburton, Oil states industries, Newpark Drilling Fluids, Proger, Rosetti Marino, Saipem, Schlumberger, Shell, Total. Right from the start, the aim of the event was to focus the attention of authorities and energy operators on the issues of the oil industry in the Mediterranean Basin. Since the first edition, which started almost quietly (40 reports, 300 delegates, 55 stands for 196 companies and a few thousand visitors), energy authorities from coastal countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia) have always participated, and on away also from West Africa (Congo, Nigeria, Mali) and from East Asia (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia). The 15th edition aims to discuss the challenges of the energy transition starting from the path that the oil & gas industry has started in the last decade towards an increasingly low carbon energy mix, expanding the boundaries of the event, integrating all forms of energy to implement strategies and new development models that aim to combine economic sustainability with environmental sustainability in a long-term perspective. The theme of the identified edition is Rethinking Energy together: alliances for a sustainable energy future: rethinking energy together through synergies and alliances that can guarantee a sustainable future and growth in the energy sector, integrating skills, know-how and contributions from the supply chains, to discuss and find feasible and concrete paths together that involve all actors, energy operators and stakeholders, embracing all forms of energy, all the levers of decarbonisation, renewable sources and the circular economy. days, from Tuesday to Thursday and includes a total of 5 high-level plenary sessions. A closing plenary session is scheduled on the last day, followed by a closing speech by the President who will launch the contents of the 2022 event. The strategic themes identified include the repositioning of the post-pandemic industry and the medium and long-term objectives, the transformation of upstream activities and new business models to achieve a zero-emission future, the role of renewables and the alliances between the North and South of the Mediterranean to create an energy transition hub in the region, and the investments necessary to create and support for a low carbon energy system. At the same time, the theme of transition will be declined in 28 technical sessions and digital poster sessions, attributable to 4 major thematic areas, for which the Scientific Committee has received and evaluated 258 contributions: circular economy; carbon neutrality; operational excellence; technologies. An important novelty of the 2021 edition is the inclusion of a special session, called the “innovation room”, aimed at young people and students of universities and schools to attract them to the world of energy and make them protagonists of the transition path towards the future.
