Inps, in 2020 employers slightly increased compared to 2019

Employers actually active in 2020 were 2.781 million, a slight increase (+ 1.2%) compared to the value of 2019 (2.747 million). This growth is entirely due to domestic employers – essentially families that use help services in the care of the home or assistance to minor children or elderly people who are not self-sufficient – which in 2020 practically reached one million units: +78,000 compared to the ‘previous year, signaling strong growth dynamics similar to that which we will analyze later on in relation to employees. This is one of the figures that emerge from the 20th INPS annual report. According to the INPS “this is an effect largely attributable to the pandemic: in particular the first lockdown, to overcome the prohibitions on moving, has (unintentionally) generated the need to regularize this segment of the workforce”. “For employers understood as private companies, the pandemic has had a negative effect, in particular due to the containment of partially seasonal companies (because they are seasonal or born or ceased during the year)”, he observes. “In fact, for ‘stable’ companies (with at least one employee every month of the year) the reduction was modest (-0.7% equal to a few thousand units out of a total of more than 1.2 million actors) while for companies partially present, the contraction was very significant: they decreased from 423,000 to 391,000 (-7.5%) “, he adds. “In terms of size, in absolute values, the reduction mainly concerned companies with fewer than 15 employees (-35,000); in percentage values ​​we note above all the reduction of companies between 15 and 99 employees (-4.7%), with a significant downsizing also of the component of companies permanently present (about -4,000 units): this is explained by the fact that the use of zero-hour layoffs for most employees has reduced, at least temporarily, the size of various companies ” , goes on. “Agriculture and public administrations also show the same negative trend as private companies”, concludes the INPS.
