A2A, in Piedmont 111 million of economic value distributed throughout the territory in 2021

An economic value distributed throughout the territory in 2021 equal to 111 million euros; 43 million euros invested in infrastructure and plant maintenance (more than tripled compared to 2020); 220 local suppliers activated (+ 12% compared to 2020), of which 45.5% micro or small enterprises, for an amount of orders equal to 92.8 million euros; 126 thousand tons of CO2 avoided thanks to production technologies. The fourth edition of the Territorial Sustainability Report of Piedmont was presented by the president of A2A Marco Patuano, which reports the environmental, economic and social performance of the Group in Piedmont in 2021, as well as its business plans for the ecological transition in the coming years. . “The Sustainability Report presented today is the synthesis of the efforts and results achieved by A2A in Piedmont and at the same time indicates the concrete commitments we intend to assume towards local communities. In 2021 the Group continued to generate shared value and tripled its investments in the area, maintaining its commitment in the recovery of materials, in the production and sale of green energy and in the reduction of emissions – commented Marco Patuano, president of A2A – Thank you to the enhancement of its resources, Piedmont can make an important contribution to the growth of energy autonomy that the country needs and that can be obtained through a coordinated systemic project. An important objective that also requires a paradigm shift in which collaboration and open and transparent dialogue between institutions, citizens and businesses become fundamental ”. For A2A, Piedmont is a territory of strategic importance: the Chivasso and Cavaglià centers play a key role in the activities linked, respectively, to the energy transition and the circular economy. In Chivasso, the A2A gas combined cycle power plant produced 2,579 GWh of electricity. Alongside this production site, an important photovoltaic system with a power of 869 kWp has been built for some time, now in the repowering phase of completion and in addition to the two A2A parks already present in the Region. The Cavaglià circular economy hub in 2021 treated over 48 thousand tons of plastic, which were selected by color and material and transformed for sending to recycling plants, avoiding the emission of 24,300 tons of CO2. In July 2021, the plant for the production of secondary solid fuel (CSS) was started up, which uses waste from the plastic sorting treatment, as well as other unsorted waste. In the Asti plant, A2A recovers the glass deriving from separate collection to transform it into a ‘ready-to-oven’ product that can be used in the glass factory to generate new bottles. In 2021, more than 146 thousand tons of glass were treated and interventions were carried out to increase the production capacity by an additional 12,000 tons / year and to separate the flint, a particular type of transparent glass suitable for optics or for high quality production. . In addition, a photovoltaic system has been connected which contributes to the energy needs of the plant. A2A then manages two Intelligent Transfer Stations (ITS) in Cavaglià and Villafalletto: the Biocubi process (patented by A2A Ambiente) is used in both plants. ) which consists in the bio-drying of the residual part of urban waste to transform it into solid fuel, in order to produce energy and heat. In particular, 126 thousand tons of waste were treated in Cavaglià, destined for waste-to-energy; in Villafalletto, on the other hand, with an aerobic process, over 60 thousand tons of wet waste components, also destined to become fuel for waste-to-energy plants. A2A has launched awareness-raising initiatives for employees with the aim of creating awareness on the issue of inclusion, gender harassment and the enhancement of diversity; the Group strengthened its commitment in this regard by publishing the Declaration of Commitment on the issues of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The Group signed the trade union agreement to set up the Bilateral Services, Culture and Free Time Entity, composed of the company and trade unions, in charge of the roles of direction and control of the area’s activities, including those of the future single Cral which will unite the three Cral existing in A2A: Milan (club that has about 100 employee-members registered in Piedmont out of a total of about 4,000), Bergamo and Brescia. In addition, 3,460 hours of overall training were provided in 2021, mainly on safety issues. Also in Piedmont, A2A is engaged in activities that encourage sustainable development and digitization, promoting projects designed for smart neighborhoods, with the aim of consuming less energy, using fewer resources, saving and reducing the environmental impact. In 7 Municipalities of the Region it offered its Smart City services through Internet of Things applications, networking 60 cameras, 147 anti-intrusion sensors and 19 readers for access and attendance. Finally, always attentive to its community and young people, also in 2021 A2A involved students and professors in numerous activities. Together with DeA Scuola, the training course ‘Towards 2050’ was proposed to teachers of primary and secondary schools at national level: 10 webinars with experts, researchers and authoritative disseminators, in the presence of about 200 teachers from the schools of the Piedmont.
