Anti-catastrophist scientists: “No response to our invitation to public confrontation”

No response to the call for a “public scientific confrontation” between ‘catastrophic’ and ‘anti-catastrophist’ scientists, proposed last August 13 by the promoters of the petition “There is no climate emergency”, who had challenged the promoters of the Appeal for the Climate to a public debate, in “an institutional or political venue”. The invitation indicated the end of August as the deadline for “accepting the challenge”. “With great regret, the writing professors promoting the petition acknowledge that the scientific comparison has not been accepted as it has always been”, reads a press release from the group, made up of eight professors: Uberto Crescenti, professor emeritus of Geology Applied, formerly Magnificent Rector; Franco Battaglia, professor of Physical Chemistry; Mario Giaccio, professor of Economics of Energy Sources; Enrico Miccadei, professor of Geology; Giuliano Panza, professor of Geophysics, academic of the Lincei; Alberto Prestininzi, professor of geological risks; Franco Prodi, professor of Atmospheric Physics; Nicola Scafetta, professor of Atmospheric Physics and Climatology. “The subject of the proposed debate was, on the one hand, the content of our Petition, sent to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella in 2019 and, later, shared by over 1,200 scientists from all over the world and, on the other hand, the content of their letter-appeal “, they recall. “The serious economic crisis we are experiencing, with particular reference to the cost of energy, probably only accentuated by the pandemic and the unfortunate war between Russia and Ukraine, represents the benchmark of the first serious effects of the decisions taken with the Green Deal by “EU, accepted without a rational scientific comparison from our country. It is our duty as university professors to report these serious anomalies. And this we will do in the future without interruption. The serious absence of a debate, plural, free and without pre-established theses is incredibly neglected by the information system. This – the teachers conclude – is a cause of great concern for the fate of democracy “. Now the ‘anti-catastrophist’ scientists are working on a new document that will try to explain the real reason for the increase energy, whose origins – it is noted – are to be placed well before the pandemic and the Russo-Ukrainian war.
