Unlocking Ukrainian ships, consequences on prices in Italy: what will cost less at the supermarket

With the unblocking of Ukrainian ports and the arrival of the first loads of cereals, supermarket prices will suffer a new decline, helping Italian families and alleviating the repercussions of inflation. As Coldiretti’s economic manager, Lorenzo Bazzana, explains to Money.it, there will be “discounts” on various consumer products such as bread and pasta, with and without gluten. After the arrival of the first cargo of 15 thousand tons of corn seeds in the port of Ravenna, landings for cargo ships with wheat and sunflower oil are expected in the coming days. For the latter product, 6 thousand tons are already in the pipeline at the port of Monopoli. Precisely in relation to seed oil and corn, as our country is very dependent on Ukrainian exports, there will be direct benefits on all associated products, both for citizens and for agricultural businesses, starting with animal feed. For citizens, even the biscuits will cost less, different speech for other goods. In supermarkets there should be no big news, for example for fruit and vegetables, which in fact risk price increases due to drought first and the floods of recent days then: climatic changes that have ruined the crops. of Coldiretti, all prices, including those of bread and pasta, are still destined to depend on the cost of energy. For Bazzana, therefore, if there are further increases in gas and electricity, the benefits of the unblocking of Ukrainian ports will disappear and people will return to pay a lot for each product.
