The summer holidays of 2022 will be remembered as the most expensive of the last 50 years. This was stated by Codacons on the basis of Istat data. A 10-day holiday will cost this year between 15.5% and 20% more, considering the expenses for travel, accommodation, food and services, going from an average of 996 euros per person in 2021 to around 1,195 euros in the 2022. Those who decide to go on holiday – explains Codacons – must take into account abnormal increases for airplanes, ferries and fuels. Domestic flights cost a third more than last year (+ 33.3%) while the fares of international flights more than doubled, marking the record of + 124.1%. It will not go better for those who decide to move by car: according to the latest Mite data revised by Codacons, petrol costs today on average 27.7% more than last year, diesel even 37% more. On the maritime transport front, ferries recorded increases of + 18.7%, while railway tariffs decreased (-9.9% on an annual basis). Heavy increases also in overnight stays. According to the Codacons, to sleep in hotels, motels and guesthouses you have to pay an average of 21.4% more than last year. Significant increases also in nutrition: bars and restaurants have revised their price lists by + 4.6%, while foodstuffs cost an average of 9.1% more. Another sore point is that relating to bathing establishments which, according to Codacons estimates, have applied average increases in the area between 5% and 15%.
