For Istat GDP 2022 it grows by only 2.8% and could be worse

Today, Istat estimates that GDP will grow by 2.8% this year but warns that the figure could be revised downwards in a very short time, due to the various risk factors that could ” heavily undermine ” the soil of the growth. Among the ” contributing causes ”, the Institute of Statistics obviously reports the increase in prices, with the estimate of inflation which stands at + 5.8%, pushed upwards first of all by the increases in the sector of energy, conditioned in turn by the war in Ukraine and affecting the trade balance of payments. In the ‘Perspectives for the Italian economy’, Istat estimates that ” Italy will experience another two years of GDP growth, with strong criticalities ” linked to ” risk factors ”. ” The reduction in international trade and the potential recovery in interest rates are all factors that could heavily undermine the numbers we have released today, ” explains the Institute. The prospects for the next few months ” are characterized by high downside risks ” linked to ” further increases in the energy price system ”. ” The sharp rise in the prices of energy raw materials ” also led to a ” marked increase in the value of imports with a consequent deterioration in the Italian trade balance ”. Even the expectations of households and businesses, according to the Institute, ” could undergo a significant deterioration ”. a revision of interest rates ”, explains Istat. “This, in a country like ours, in which we have a high debt, will produce effects, it will hit us more intensely”. Consequently, the budget interventions, which “will have to be implemented by the government, will have to be well targeted and calibrated, to increase effectiveness and contain the cost”.
