A network of essential infrastructures that have changed the face of the port of Palermo. Pasqualino Monti, president of the Western Sicily Sea Authority, rattled off one after the other the works completed and in the pipeline during a face to face with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Alessandro Morelli. “We have gone from being the sixteenth system authority to be among the top three, that is, one of the most important realities in the country as regards ports and the maritime economy”. Along the list of works put in place. Five terminals in four years. “We dredged the seabed, sailed off the south pier, inserted the dolphin at Vittorio Veneto, finally eliminated the 19 and 50 thousand Tpl basins that made the maneuvers of the giants of the sea difficult”, explains Monti. “We have rebuilt the Sammuzzo, a quay of about 500 meters on which not even a fishing boat could dock – he continues – and which today is a safe landing place for large cruise ships. On the Trapezoidale, we have undertaken an incredible demolition work of almost 20 thousand square meters of ugliness and atrocities. We have contracted out the port-city interface “. The transformation of the port, its redevelopment, flows on the images of the video projected during the meeting with journalists. “We have achieved a lot and we have a lot in the pipeline”, says the president of the Western Sicily Maritime Authority. A lot of projects that require resources. “The meeting with the deputy minister was useful to make Rome aware of this project and how important it is to transform it into concrete works”. “On the one hand we have planned, unified and designed and on the other hand we have carried out projects in a short time without ever losing sight of the market compass: we have not built cathedrals in the desert”, assures Monti. And the results were not long in coming. With agreements with major international cruise groups for the next thirty years and on the Ro-Ro front with commercial agreements for the same period of time with “concessions closed with the two most important shipowners in the world”. Without forgetting shipbuilding and “the agreement until 2057 with Fincantieri for the construction of ships”.
