Italians on the net with broadband and ultra-broadband accesses, at 18.1 million

At the end of 2020, broadband and ultra-broadband, residential and business accesses exceeded 18.1 million units, equal to a ratio of 30.4 lines per 100 inhabitants. This indicator is equal to 20.4 lines per 100 inhabitants for connections with capacities greater than 30 Mbit / s (16% in 2019) and drops to 15.6 lines (11.7% last year) with regard to those with speed higher than 100 Mbit / s. This is what emerges from the Annual Report of the Authority for Communications Guarantees illustrated today in the Chamber by President Giacomo Lasorella. In 2005 the broadband lines represented less than 30% of the total lines and the most performing lines in terms of connection speed (fttc / ftth) were substantially absent. At the end of 2020, non-broadband subscriptions are now residual (7.5% of the total) while the complex of the FTT and FTTH lines has exceeded 55% of the total. , the Communications Authority registered 105 publications in 2020, for a total value of 1,103,826,466 copies (-13.4% compared to 2019). The structural crisis of the traditional press is becoming increasingly marked and shows that it has not benefited particularly from the increased demand for information due to the pandemic crisis. In the second quarter of 2020, only 17.6% of Italians chose on average to get information in the newspapers, according to a downward trend that is common to the whole European Union. The revenues of publishers from online advertising sales also show a decline, in contrast to what was achieved by the platforms, which instead exhibit significant growth in this area.
