Altroconsumo, 1 Italian out of 4 stays at home and 89% of those who will travel will do so in Italy

Don’t change for this year, same beach, same Covid-19. We have now reached the second summer in health emergency, Altroconsumo has therefore gone to photograph what will be the behaviors of Italians in 2021 regarding departures. Specifically, the Association interviewed a sample of 900 Italians about their travel plans, knowledge of the rules for traveling, vaccinations in view of holidays and opinions on the evolution of the virus. First of all, Altroconsumo asked the Italians where they plan to spend their holidays. 22% of respondents say they will stay at home while 62% will spend at least part of the season in other areas. 16%, on the other hand, have not yet booked. 9/10 of those who will travel will prefer local destinations, 25% will not even cross the borders of their region. To do so will be 1 inhabitant of the South or of the Islands out of 2; 6% of the citizens of the Northwest, 22% of those of the Northeast and 33% of those of the center. A small percentage of Italians decide instead to cross national borders: 11%, in fact, will travel abroad, 2% also outside Europe. But what will be the most used means of travel? 80% will prefer the car, 9% will take the plane, 5% the train and, finally, 4% the ferry. It emerges that despite the prolonged health emergency, many Italians are ready to travel. But how much do they know about travel rules? The level of information on travel requirements is still very low. Only 38% consider themselves well informed about movements between regions and only 18% about those beyond the Alps. One of the safest ways to avoid problems during travel is certainly vaccination, in fact, the holiday variable has strongly influenced the vaccination campaign of Italians. 16% of citizens who have not yet booked say that the possibility that the date for the second dose falls during the weeks off has influenced the decision to wait. Among those who have already taken the first dose, 11% argue that, if the second were to be taken during the holiday period, they would not show up for the appointment.Altroconsumo has, finally, analyzed the opinions of Italians in on the evolution of the pandemic and the new measures introduced with the arrival of summer and the decrease in infections. One of the most important innovations is certainly the abolition of the obligation to wear the mask outdoors. Many were waiting for this step, in fact, at the time of the survey (a week before the abolition of the obligation) 2 out of 3 Italians were in favor of removing the obligation to wear the mask outdoors. The percentage rises to 82% when it comes to putting them indoors. Attending the internal halls, for example, of restaurants and bars is considered, however, dangerous by almost 40% of the interviewees. For 74% and 61% it is also dangerous to go to sports centers and cinemas or theaters respectively. Finally, the Italians were asked how, in their opinion, the pandemic situation will evolve in the autumn. According to 29% of the interviewees, infections will continue to decline, for 17% they will remain stable, while for 54% there will be an increase (more or less worrying).
