Visit by Minister Colao to the Tim Innovation Lab in Turin

The minister for technological innovation and digital transition, Vittorio Colao, visited Tim’s spaces dedicated to innovation and research in Turin this morning, where the group is experimenting with new 5G, Cloud and Edge Computing technologies and all innovative applications connected to ultra-fast networks. In particular, during the visit to the Tim Innovation Lab, a series of ‘demos’ were presented to highlight the potential deriving from new technologies, including Multicast, a solution that will be introduced shortly by Tim for the broadcasting of football in streaming, a Data center with edge computing nodes and next generation 5G antennas with Open Ran technology. The most important technological solutions and applications are also developed within the laboratories of the group led by Luigi Gubitosi to encourage the digitization of businesses and civil society. Thanks to the numerous experiments Tim has a patrimony of over 3,000 patents. The Turin office covers over 9,000 square meters, and has been one of the main centers of national competence in the telecommunications and ICT sector since 1964. It concentrates all the research and innovation activities of the Tim group (FiberCop, Noovle, Olivetti, Sparkle and Telsy) for the development of fixed and mobile networks, software architectures and technologies for Edge and Cloud computing, cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, the context of digital services and multimedia. During the visit, the Tim Historical Archive was also shown, a rich digital heritage of the documentary legacy of telecommunications of the country that goes from the end of the 19th century to today.
