In 2020, over 1.8 million bonuses to families for water, electricity and gas discounts, for 232 million euros

In 2020 Arera, the Regulatory Authority for Energy and the Environment, granted 1.8 million bonuses to families in need for discounts on electricity, gas and water bills. 854,900 families had access to the electric social bonus, of which 805,303 received the bonus for economic hardship and 41,046 the bonus for physical hardship; 543,963 families had access to the gas social bonus; 461,334 families have requested and obtained the social water bonus. This is what Arera – the Regulatory Authority for Energy and the Environment – reports in the Annual Report on the State of Services and Activities carried out in 2020. The total amount of bonuses paid to the electricity sector (due to economic hardship and physical hardship) and for the gas sector it amounted to approximately 135.5 and 76.2 million euros respectively. For the water sector, bonuses were paid for a total of approximately 20.4 million euro. In 2020, 395,800 households that benefited from the water bonus are also beneficiaries of the electricity and gas bonuses, up 5.6% compared to the previous year.
