Terna, in the development plan for the reorganization of the main metropolitan areas and connections with the islands

In Terna’s 2021 Development Plan there is also a reorganization in the main metropolitan areas and connections with the islands. An important infrastructure reorganization plan, according to the plan that was illustrated today by Terna’s CEO, Stefano Donnarumma, will also cover the main metropolitan areas of the country (including Catania, Genoa, Reggio Emilia and Rome) and the development of grids in the islands currently not interconnected with peninsular Italy, to make the local electricity service more efficient and reliable. In particular, two new submarine cables are also included in the 2021 Development Plan: one will connect the Island of Giglio with Tuscany, the other will connect the Island of Favignana with Sicily. To these, there is the submarine power line between the Island of Elba and the mainland. The 90 million euro infrastructure, 37 km long and completely ‘invisible’, will contribute to improving the quality of the local electricity service, guaranteeing important benefits in terms of safety, reliability and sustainability of the island, characterized by high electricity consumption in the period summer.
