Expensive fuels, in 6 months +347 euros per family for petrol and diesel

Dear fuels, the escalation of petrol and diesel price lists cost Italians over 9 billion euros in just 6 months due to higher car refueling costs. In the same period, the state collected over 25 billion euros in VAT and excise duties on petrol and diesel. This was revealed by a survey conducted by the Consumerism No Profit consumer association and by the Research and Study Center of ‘Alma Laboris Business School’, a company specializing in Masters and Advanced Training and Specialization Courses for professionals, which analyzed the trend of price lists at pump of the last 6 months to understand how much the ‘expensive fuel’ has cost the community and how much the state has earned thanks to the increases at the pump. According to the official data of the Mite, the escalation of the petrol and diesel prices began last October, when the prices of the green one broke the threshold of 1.7 euros per liter, starting a race to the top without brakes – explain Consumerismo e Alma Laboris – Considering the Italian vehicle fleet, the monthly average fuel prices recorded by the Ministry and an average of 2.5 full tanks per month, it emerges that Italians spent over 23.5 billion euros for petrol supplies, 21.1 billion for diesel, for a total of 44.7 billion. In the same semester of the previous year, citizens, based on the average fuel prices in effect from October 2020 to March 2021, spent 35.6 billion euros on the same consumption. This means that in the last 6 months the Italians, due to the expensive fuel, have found themselves spending a total of 9.031 billion euros more, equal to an average of +347 euros per family. Alma Laboris’ research then focuses on the fiscal component of fuels, and analyzes the revenues collected by the state coffers in the last 6 months. “From the processing of public data, and on the basis of projections on the Italian vehicle fleet, from October to March the State collected 8.1 billion euros with VAT on fuels, 17.2 billion with excise duties, for a total of 25.3 billion euros – reports the director of Alma Laboris Business School, Dario Numerooso – While the weight of excise duties remained unchanged compared to 2021 (0.728 euros on each liter of gasoline, 0.617 euros on diesel) ‘VAT has increased thanks to the increases at the pump, and have resulted in an additional “treasury” for the state coffers that touches 1.7 billion euros in just 6 months ”.
