FinTech, global market with 7.5 billion transactions

Large investment rounds, high growth rates, unsurpassed sector yield. 2 021 confirmed the exponential growth of FinTech as emerges from the new report Market analysis: payment systems created by Cross Border Growth Capital, Italian advisor for capital increases and extraordinary finance operations for startups and SMEs. According to the analysis, the FinTech sector in 2021 posted a transacted value of 7,528.8 billion euros globally, with an expected 2020-2025 CAGR of 15.3%. In this context, the first sector for growth is Personal Finance (22.8%), followed by Digital Payments (14%), Alternative Finance (10.2%) and Alternative Lending (6.6%). Total turnover thus stands at 143 billion and investments raised at 121.5 billion in 2020. In particular, in 2021, the Digital Payments market recorded a transaction value for a total of 5,921.5 billion euros and, according to research by Growth Capital, it will reach 9,318.5 billion in 2025. Peer-to-peer payments (without underlying commercial transactions) amount to 1,964 billion in 2021 and are expected to reach 9,259 billion in 2030 (CAGR 2020-2030 of 17.3%). According to the data analyzed by Growth Capital, FinTech startups have closed the biggest Italian rounds of 2021: just mention Soldo (153 million euros), Scalapay (132 million euros) and Satispay (93 million euros). According to analysts, the start of 2022 is also excellent with six rounds with a size greater than 1 million euros in the first two months of the new year. The six startups raised more than 255 million euros led by Scalapay’s € 188.1 million Series B at the end of February and Moneyfarm’s € 53 million Series D at the end of January. “Italy has a FinTech ecosystem with great potential albeit still partially immature” comments Andrea Casati, Vice-President of Growth Capital. “The data we have collected – he observes – however show us three directions of growth and innovation to drive the sector forward: withdrawals and deposits, digital payments, and digital banking services”. The research also shows that in Italy 51% of the population actively uses FinTech services and 68% is identified as passive connoisseurs, double compared to the 2015 surveys (35%). Considering the digital population alone – that is, those who have used the internet during the last 30 days – the FinTech penetration figure in the Belpaese is particularly positive, reaching 87% and positioning Italy as the first country in Europe. “It is a data of fundamental importance to guide traditional banks in competing with NeoBank, or online banks”, Andrea Casati said shortly.
