The numbers of tourism in Italy

If the pandemic has led to a collapse in tourist flows, from the analysis of Istat and Bank of Italy data, Adnkronos and Expleo have discovered several interesting trends related to tourism. For example, who are the most expensive foreign travelers and which are the most visited regions. And there was no shortage of surprises. Travel and tourism are among the sectors most affected by the restrictions due to the health emergency. Suffice it to say that from 2019 to 2020 the number of foreign tourists has more than halved and their total expenditure has decreased by over 60%. A collapse that most obviously affected overseas tourists. For example, the attendance of Americans in the July-September quarter went from nearly 1.4 million in 2019 to just over 24,000 in 2020 and with a percentage decrease of 93% on an annual basis. The variation in tourist arrivals from China was slightly lower (-91.6%). A negative trend also confirmed for the flow of tourists from the Old Continent. A few examples? The presences of Finns in Italy compared to 2019 decreased by 88%, those of the Spaniards by 84% and the French by 72%. Despite this, even during the first summer at the time of Covid, foreigners did not give up on holidays in our country, especially Europeans. And, although the registered presences have drastically reduced, in some cases, tourists have spent more and stayed more days than in summer 2019. First of all the Germans, who compared to almost 2 more days of stay media also spent almost € 20 more per day. These and other interesting trends emerged from the analysis carried out by Adnkronos and Expleo on the data made available by Istat and the Bank of Italy.
