Generali, president Galateri does not reapply for board renewal

Gabriele Galateri will leave Generali at the end of his term as president. This was announced by Galateri himself to the board of directors of the insurance company, meeting to define the short list of the same board for the renewal of the board, a step that precedes the presentation of the definitive list, which will be drawn up at the meeting on March 14th. “I will leave the board in full serenity and unity of purpose, thanking the colleagues who have spent generous words towards me and all the employees of the group for the extraordinary and passionate work they have done over the years”, he said reading a letter to the directors. At the end of his mandate, at the end of April, Galateri, president for 11 years and vice-president of the company for another seven years, would have lost the requisites of independent director. “This long experience leads me to fully share the desire for renewal of the board which I believe is ultimately the basis of the assessment of the lack of independence from the Code of Conduct, as a fact preclusive to my tenure in the office of president”, he underlined. explained that he wanted, “beyond the formal requirements, to maintain full independence of judgment and thus express regret for the tensions in the corporate body of recent times that Generali certainly does not deserve” and hoped that at the shareholders’ meeting on April 29th he could be elected a council “made up of people of professionalism and ethical conscience such as to favor the recovery of a climate of serenity and collaboration in the social interest”. In this sense, he added, “I will carry on my commitment with the council by carrying out my functions until the expiry of the mandate with the spirit of service and availability that a deadline, in such a long militancy, certainly cannot fail” .
