Poste opens mega-hub for e-commerce in Pavia

Poste Italiane has inaugurated the largest Italian hub for e-commerce and express courier services. The plant is in Landriano, in the Pavia area: with an investment of 60 million euros on an area of ​​80 thousand square meters (five times Piazza Duomo in Milan), it can sort up to 300 thousand parcels a day. The ribbon of the new plant was cut by the president of Poste Italiane, Maria Bianca Farina and the managing director, Matteo Del Fante, in the presence of the Minister of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti and the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana. “The Landriano hub – said Del Fante – is a further step in the transformation process of Poste Italiane’s logistics infrastructure that focuses on innovation and sustainability to better respond to the new online shopping habits of Italians. It is a strategic infrastructure that allows us to develop the logistics network along the entire value chain, to grasp the full growth potential deriving from e-commerce. In 2020 alone, Poste Italiane delivered 210 million parcels, becoming the first operator with a market share of 36.7% and launching an extraordinary path that by 2025 will bring the share of revenues generated by the parcel business to over 50% “. Landriano’s hub is equipped with an automatic “latest generation sorting system that uses the highest technological standards”, explains the note. It operates on four interconnected machines that automatically divide the packs by destination and weight / volume on 694 outlets, allowing the management of envelopes and small packs and extra-large packs, for a capacity of about 39 thousand pieces per hour. The state-of-the-art equipment also includes an innovative sorting system based on “autonomous mobile sorting” technology equipped with 17 robots. The parcels are then loaded directly onto the vehicles that provide distribution throughout Italy. 2,500 state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof that generate electricity capable of covering 80% of the system’s consumption, reducing annual CO2 emissions by 210 tons. “With the opening of the new Landriano plant, Poste Italiane confirms once again its role as a system company, contributing to the economic and social development and digital and ecological transition of the country”.
