THE NORTHEST SITUATION – Trentino Alto Adige, with Bolzano, leads the northern regions for sustainability. Followed by Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piedmont and Veneto. The latter is in a good position in social (4th region) and economic (6a) sustainability, lagging behind in environmental sustainability (13a). The dossier confirms the existence of a clear gap between the North and the South of the country, with a strong correlation between the economic and the social and environmental dimensions. The areas with a more robust production system of the northern regions are able to guarantee citizens employment and incomes, with better welfare services and greater investments in the protection of the environment and the territory. Bolzano, together with Milan and Bologna, are the top three cities with the highest overall sustainability. Here are the top ten: Bolzano, Milan, Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Trento, Padua, Turin, Bergamo, Pordenone and Udine. In the ranking of economic sustainability we have among the top ten: Milan, Bologna, Trieste, Genoa, Turin, Padua, Bolzano, Parma, Florence and Venice. In the ranking of social sustainability we have: Bolzano, Trento, Milan, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Padua, Bologna, Forlì-Cesena and Brescia. Finally, in the ranking of environmental sustainability we find in the top ten: Bolzano, Trento, Genoa, Lecce, Prato, Livorno, La Spezia, Florence, Pordenone, Valle D’Aosta.
