Altroconsumo: “Stable financial scenario in December, banks resist the pandemic”

In December, also in light of the various data published by Italian credit institutions such as the 2020 budget or the half-year report, compared to September the financial scenario proves to be stable and capable of resisting the effects of the pandemic. This is what emerges from the Altroconsumo investigation, available in the new issue of the magazine dedicated to the sector, Altroconsumo Finanza, which from this December takes the name of Altroconsumo Invest, through which the current situation of Italian banks is verified. As for the institutions that are part of the medium-high range (4-5 stars in the evaluation of Altroconsumo), or those institutions that show budget data that put them relatively safe from strong shocks, we can find a certain stability compared to last September : 63 credit institutions have always obtained the highest rating. What changes, however, is the composition of the sample: for example, the Bcc di Canosa-Loconia, Cr di Ravenna (spa) and Cra Banca Campania Centro go from 4 to 5 stars. In addition, there was a slight decrease among those who obtained a 2 and 3 star rating. There are only three banks with a solidity score of 1 star, two of which still show satisfactory results. These results, Altroconsumo recalls, “were also confirmed by recent data released by the EBA (European banking authority): after almost two years of pandemic emergency, the state of health of Italian banks has improved in recent months. After having worried Europe for a long time about the high level of NPLs, thanks to the measures taken over the years to reduce them, it seems that the Italian banking system is healthier than in the past. In the period between December 2019 and June 2021, the incidence of NPLs in the balance sheets of Italian banks has decreased by almost 45% “.
