Travaglia (ceo Nestlé Italy): ‘Unhealthy food given by deceptive Ft’

The figure of 60% indicated by the document cited by the Financial Times about Nestlé’s unhealthy products “is completely misleading” since it does not include an additional 50% of the brand’s products such as coffee, dog and cat food and baby food: the clarification comes from the president and CEO of Nestlé Italy and Malta Marco Travaglia who indicates that “the correct number is less than 30% of our portfolio which would be ‘unhealthy’: in fact they are categories such as chocolate and ice cream, by nature ‘indulgent’ categories ( ‘greedy’ foods ed) on which we were reflecting and on which we must continue to work “. “The theme is to continue trying to improve the content of fats and sugars” in food, explained the CEO; “we have reduced the sugar and salt content in the last ten years by approximately between 14 and 17%”. But, he continued, “beyond our commitment to nutritional improvement, if there are objective difficulties in improving the ‘indulgent’ portfolio we have them and the whole industry has it”. The issue is very much about nutritional education and everyone’s awareness.
