Gentiloni: “Comparison between states to improve the Fit for 55 package”

“I am sure that in discussions between member states we will try to improve” the ‘Fit for 55’ package developed by the European Commission to guide the energy transition. This was stated, in a contribution to the presentation in Rome of the World Energy Outlook of the International Energy Agency (IEA), by the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni. For Gentiloni “European leadership is important in the energy transition, but we must also give certainty and competitiveness to our companies”, because this leadership “does not mean a flight forward alone”. “We cannot give up on this project”, he added, highlighting the need to be attentive “to its social acceptability: we cannot allow a transition necessary for the planet and for economies to end up not gathering the consensus” of public opinion.
