Accademia Lincei inaugurates 419th Academic Year with new members and Nobel Parisi

The Accademia dei Lincei confirms its prestigious path by inaugurating the 419th Academic Year tomorrow and this year counting, among its ranks, the last Italian Nobel Prize in Physics Giorgio Parisi who led the Lincei from 2018 to July 2021. L ‘Accademia also celebrates the entry of over 60 new members, including the Italian physicist and general manager of CERN Fabiola Gianotti. Today, the new academics of the lincei are given the prestigious badges for the years 2020 – in which the arrival of the pandemic stopped the historic ceremony – and for 2021. Tomorrow, however, the Opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2021-2022 foresees the delivery of the Antonio Feltrinelli prize which in 2020 was awarded “for Monetary Institutions” to Prime Minister Mario Draghi. To receive the National Award of the President of the Republic 2021, for the disciplines included in the Class of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences, this year is the doctor and pharmacologist Silvio Garattini, president Emeritus of the Mario Negri Irccs Institute of Pharmacological Research in Milan. And there is expectation for the Report that will be held tomorrow, at the opening of the inauguration ceremony of the new Academic Year, by the new president of the Accademia dei Lincei and philologist Roberto Antonelli. Antonelli prepares new guidelines for the oldest national academy in the world Antonelli’s is in fact his first report as president of the Lincei. A document that draws both a balance sheet of the activities carried out in the previous academic year – which ended last July under the presidency of the Nobel laureate Giorgio Parisi – but also marks the start of the new programmatic lines that the Italian philologist will want to give to one of the oldest institutions European scientific studies. Activities those carried out by the Lincei “fruit of the collegial work of the members of the Presidency Council – composed of Giorgio Parisi, Antonio Gambaro, Paolo Costantino, Fulvio Tessitore, Vincenzo Aquilanti and Renzo Piva – and of the eighteen lincei commissions” Antonelli remembers who wants to “thank everyone “for the collaboration and support”. In his speech, Antonelli is preparing to give the right honor “to the last of the great events that have marked the centuries-old history of our Academy, the oldest national academy in the world” and “of course” his reference is to the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Physics to his predecessor Giorgio Parisi who, underlines the philologist, “luckily for us he has chosen to continue to provide his contribution as President of the Class of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences and as Vice-president of the Academy “. Just two months ago the Accademia dei Lincei was in the spotlight for having hosted, last September, the G20 of Academies and for having “actively collaborated with the G7” as recalled by President Antonelli who at the summit of the G20 Academies was keen to remark that “for the first time in the history of these international meetings, the G20 also provided for the presence of Human Sciences in addition to that of Physical Sciences “.
