Fisco, Pierini: ‘With orange sugar tax + 13%, soda chinotti and aperitifs + 11%’

Most compatriots (64%) believe the sugar tax, which will come into effect from 1 January 2023, is simply a tool to generate additional income for the State (64%), especially to the detriment of the poorest income brackets ( 59% think so) and typical products of the Italian tradition such as chinotti, foam and sodas (for 58% of the interviewees). This is what emerges from a survey conducted by Nomisma on behalf of Assobibe, the Confindustria association that represents producers of soft drinks, on a sample of 1,200 Italians between 18 and 65 years of age. “They are right because according to Nomisma estimates, the introduction of the tax will lead to an average increase of 13% for orange sodas, of 11% for chinotti, sodas, lemonades and non-alcoholic aperitifs, just to name a few” says the president of Assobibe Giangiacomo Pierini, commenting research. “Only 4% of consumers are willing to pay the price increase and the vast majority of consumers are against the sugar tax.” in which presumably we will still be in January 2023 putting our hands in the pockets of Italians with a further tax that affects consumption, it sounds like a contradiction with respect to the government’s declared intentions to cut taxes to support the recovery “.
