Fisco, Pierini (Assobibe): ‘Sugar tax must be abolished, postponement of one year is of little use’

The sugar tax “must be abolished, postponing it by a year actually changes little because the effects on businesses will be produced immediately”. This is what Giangiacomo Pierini, president of Assobibe, the association representing the producers of soft drinks, said, interviewed by Adnkronos. “Never as this year there are the funds and never as this year the companies – he adds – really hope to free the horizon from this terrible sword of Damocles in order to look to the future with confidence”. Furthermore, “the costs that businesses will have to assume, already next year, will be related to the implementation of the sugar tax which requires a whole series of bureaucratic steps that are not at zero cost for businesses”. For this reason, he reiterates, with regard to the measure contained in the budget law “we now ask Parliament to correct this choice and to pass from suspension to abolition”.
