Taxes 2021, tax revenue boom: + 12.3% in 9 months

In the first nine months of 2021, tax revenues ascertained on the basis of the criterion of legal competence amounted to 340.8 billion euros, marking an increase of 37.4 billion euros compared to the same period of 2020 (+12.3 %). The Mef communicates it. In September alone, there was a positive change of 21.1% (+6.7 billion), determined by the increase in direct tax revenues of 5.8 billion euro (+ 34.1%) and taxes indirect costs of 990 million euros (+ 6.6%). Returning to the January-September period, tax revenues deriving from verification and control activities amounted to 5.5 billion euros, down by 10.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, while revenues from gaming instead recorded an increase of 13.7% reaching 8.5 billion euros (+1 billion). Direct taxes, in the first 9 months of the year, amounted to 189,891 million euros, with an increase of 13,311 million euros (+ 7.5%). Income from personal income tax amounted to 145,391 million euros with an increase of 8,720 million euros (+ 6.4%). A positive trend was recorded in withholding taxes on private sector employees’ incomes (+5,942 million euros, + 10.1%), whose revenues benefited from the extension ordered by the “Refreshments Decree” in favor of withholding agents who, starting from March 2021, they paid the withholding taxes on employee and similar income and on the termination indemnity of the project collaboration relationship paid in the last three months of 2020. The trend of the withholdings made is also positive. on the income of public sector employees (+1,337 million euros, + 2.3%) and those of self-employed workers (+908 million euros, + 11.5%). Irpef payments from self-liquidation still showed a negative change in revenue equal to 2 million euros. Among other direct taxes, we note the growth trends of the substitute tax on income as well as withholdings on interest and other capital income (+1,294 million euros, + 20.0%) and withholdings on profits distributed by legal entities ( +733 million euros, + 60.9%). Income in lieu of income taxes on the revaluation of company assets recorded in the financial statements and on the disposal of funds in suspension of tax also show an increase in revenue equal to 3,160 million euros, due to the provisions introduced by decree law 104/2020. IRES recorded revenues of 17,066 million euros (-1,321 million euros, -7.2%). Indirect taxes amounted to € 150,974 million, an increase of € 24,056 million (+ 19.0%). The result was mainly due to VAT (+18,041 million euros, + 22.6%) and, in particular, VAT on internal exchanges (+14,772 million euros, + 20.4%). The component relating to imports also recorded an increase in revenue of 871 million euros (+ 9.7%). Among other indirect taxes, revenues from insurance tax (-90 million euros, -16.9%) and stamp duty (-127 million euros, -2.5%) recorded a negative trend. The registration tax shows an increase of € 1,055 million (+ 38.9%).
